In keeping with the values of the Society of Indian Psychologists (SIP), we aim to create an inclusive and supportive space that fosters connection, learning, and respectful exchange. The following guidelines are in place to ensure that our listserv remains a space of positive engagement and mutual respect for all members.

PURPOSE
The SIP listserv serves as a community hub to share events, news, and relevant items of interest within the SIP network. It is a tool for collective wisdom, learning, and sometimes gathering feedback from our members to help guide the future of our work.

POLICIES
-
Respect and Connection:
We honor the diversity and individuality of each member. Please approach the listserv with the intention of uplifting others, sharing knowledge, and maintaining a respectful tone. We ask that you communicate thoughtfully, keeping in mind the values of mutual respect and interconnectedness that are central to Native cultures. This is a space for building bridges, not barriers. -
Positive and Constructive Dialogue:
While healthy debates and diverse perspectives are welcome, we request that all interactions on the listserv be grounded in respect and consideration for others. Content that is defamatory, harmful, discriminatory, or offensive is not acceptable. If you feel the need to express a disagreement or differing opinion, please do so with kindness and humility. If a discussion becomes personal, or if you have concerns with an individual’s message, we encourage you to reach out to that person directly to resolve the matter privately. -
Authenticity and Transparency:
We ask that all members engage with the listserv under their true identity. Misrepresentation or posting anonymously undermines trust within the community. Please be open and transparent in your communication, reflecting the core principle of honesty that guides both Native and psychological traditions. -
Integrity of Content:
Respect the ideas and content shared by others. Do not alter or misrepresent messages from others in a way that could cause confusion or mislead others. If you are sharing someone else’s work or perspective, always attribute it properly. -
Appropriateness of Posts:
Please ensure your message aligns with the listserv’s purpose of sharing relevant and meaningful information. If you’re uncertain about whether a message fits the spirit of the list, err on the side of caution and consider reaching out to the list administrator for guidance. Disagreements or discussions about the appropriateness of content should be kept private rather than shared on the list. -
Clear and Considerate Communication:
Be clear in your subject line and message so others can easily understand the purpose of your communication. At the end of your message, include a brief signature with your name, affiliation, and contact information. When requesting replies, ask members to respond directly to you rather than to the whole list, and consider summarizing responses for the benefit of all members. -
Limit Personal Conversations:
The listserv is a space for community engagement and shared knowledge. Please keep personal exchanges off the listserv. This ensures that the list remains relevant and focused on matters that benefit all members. Excessive or off-topic messages can dilute the value of the conversation for everyone. -
Mindful Use of the Listserv:
While we encourage open and lively discussions, please remember that the listserv is not a space for frequent personal blog-style posts or long monologues. Keep messages concise and relevant to the larger community. If you are unsure about the nature of a post, remember that brevity, relevance, and respect will always serve the collective good. -
Adherence to SIP Standards:
The listserv should never be used in ways that violate SIP's bylaws, rules, or ethical standards. All communication through this forum must align with the values and mission of SIP and the traditions we uphold as Indigenous peoples.
MONITORING & ENFORCEMENT
SIP is committed to maintaining a space where members feel safe, supported, and respected. We reserve the right to monitor the listserv to ensure that these policies are being followed. Should any violations occur, SIP has the authority to remove members from the listserv in order to preserve the integrity of the community.

SIP's Right to Evolve:
We recognize that times and needs evolve. As such, SIP reserves the right to modify these policies to best serve the interests of our community and the broader Indigenous psychology movement. These changes will reflect our commitment to respect, growth, and meaningful connection.
